...What an amazing honest and open post - thank you.

I can't help feeling so lucky and grateful. I had an odd relationship with my Dad, never quite sure of him or what he thought of me... until just before he died. After 42 years working in one place the govt of the day closed it all and he was out of work. I was in my last year at college, living at home and therefore at home a lot working on assignments/revising etc. I got to know my Dad more in those few months than in the 21 years previously. He just wanted us (his kids) to be better off than him, to have chances he never felt he had. A couple of months after I'd qualified from college, got the job I wanted (I'd be sponsored through college by that firm) and was confirming the plans for our wedding in the coming year my Dad had an op on his hip. I saw him in the hospital on a Friday evening, he was happy, telling me he was going to do this and that in the garden once fit and that he'd take my Mum on holiday etc. He died of a massive heart attack the next morning.

I always felt robbed - he never saw my marriage, my kids, he never helped (criticised :-) my DIY in my homes.

My Mum - was a very very lovely lady. She passed on 6 years ago nearly now - my children miss her hugely.

I was lucky though - I have both on them in my memories and they really did do their best for me.Furtheronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11903753972242964410noreply@blogger.com
